Eric has represented software vendors and customers, music and book publishers, entertainment and media companies, advertising agencies, manufacturers, companies with valuable brands, and other innovative businesses across a wide range of IP matters. His practice spans litigation, licensing, counseling, clearance and trademark prosecution.

Eric has served as lead trial counsel in federal and state courts across the country. Beyond the courtroom, Eric negotiates and prepares software licenses including for software development and SaaS; music, literary and other copyright licenses; and trademark licenses. He has served as outside general counsel to several innovative companies and has helped growing foreign businesses establish a legal foundation for entering the U.S. market.

Eric is the co-author of Substantial Similarity in Copyright Law (PLI), the leading treatise on how courts analyze copyright infringement claims, and was part of the group that drafted the ABA’s model jury instructions for copyright infringement cases. He also served on the AIPLA panel that revised the organization’s model jury instructions for patent infringement cases. He currently serves on INTA’s Data Committee.

Eric has presented before the Copyright Society of the U.S.A., the Copyright Society of the South, and the Licensing Executives Society, among others.
